Education and Literacy
Increased Access to Education
Primary school learners and secondary school students were provided with tuition, scholastic materials, and coverage for other school-related costs in three districts. This support has effectively eliminated absenteeism among scholarship recipients and led to significant improvements in their academic performance, particularly in examinable subjects.
Increased Literacy and Lifelong Learning
Children aged 6-14 years in collaborating schools in Mitooma district were engaged through the Sit and Read and Library in a Box initiatives, which provided them with storybooks instilling a love of reading and building a reading culture. These initiatives have significantly enhanced their language skills, emotional intelligence, imagination, creativity, and cognitive abilities that are valuable throughout life.
Health and Wellness
Improved Health and Wellness of Seniors
Collaboratively with our affiliate Siime Foundation Africa, health services, including chronic disease screenings, ear and eye health evaluations, were provided, with free eyeglasses distributed to those in need. Hygiene and wellness kits containing essential items were given to beneficiary seniors (70 years+) enhancing their personal hygiene and overall well-being.
Empowered Seniors through Health Education
Health education sessions were conducted for seniors covering crucial topics such as nutrition, sanitation, hygiene, and general health leading to an increased awareness of healthy practices, improved personal hygiene, better nutritional habits, and a reduction in preventable health issues.
Established partnerships with community radios have expanded the reach of health, nutrition, water, and sanitation messages to a broader audience, particularly in remote communities. This initiative has improved public awareness of health issues, preventive measures, and available services, leading to the adoption of healthier practices, and earlier seeking of medical advice amongst the target group.
Sports and Recreation
Enhanced mental wellness and confidence in girls through rugby.
Through seed support to our partner Gulu Sprinters Rugby Football Club, we facilitated sports activities specifically designed for vulnerable young women. These initiatives contributed to fostering healthier lifestyles, improving mental health, and boosting the self-esteem of participants. Immediate results were evident in the significant reduction of mental health issues and the enhancement of social skills among the young women involved.
